15.11.2006  18:15 - Andrew 3D Network events: New database Restriction enzymes

Few days ago Restriction enzymes database has been started.
The main features of the database:
- it's possible to leave comments to each enzyme, so now you can share your expirince using this or that enzyme fron differenr companies;
- for each enzyme there are information about its recognition site, incubation temperature and activity in different buffers (Fermentas, Promega, New England Biolabs and SibEnzyme);
- up to 4 enzymes could be compared in one window.

13.11.2006  18:47 - Andrew 3D Network events: New biotool Run Time Convertor

   New biotool Run Time Convertor was started in the section Molbiol tools. This tool could be used for runtime recalculation upon rotor type or/and rotor speed change. The tool is based on scripts from official BACKMAN COULTER website.

04.11.2006  13:15 - Science world news: Promising target for new atherosclerosis therapies linked to leukemia

   Scientists at The Wistar Institute pursuing a promising new immune-system target for anti-atherosclerosis therapies have discovered another convergence: An unwanted potential side effect of any such therapies is a dangerous blood cancer called chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML. More positively, the CML seen in the genetic strain of mice used in the study closely mimics human CML, so that the mice offer a new model for studying CML, opening the door for researchers to better understand that disease. The Wistar team's results are featured on the cover of the current issue of the Journ...

31.10.2006  00:03 - Andrew 3D Network events: New sections

   Recently I've started two new sactions of my Network - Reference data and Useful resources.

   In Reference data section I'll collect different kinds of information materials, tables, figures, articles.

   Section Useful resources is the catalog, in which I'd like to collect links to different websites, which it's useful to have on hand.

   If you have any materials you think would be worth to publish in Reference data sections or you've found that link to some website sould be placed in the Useful resources catalog,write me.

05.10.2006  13:22 - Science world news: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2006

  Biologists Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello will split the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work uncovering how certain genes in the body are inactivated ("for their discovery of RNA interference - gene silencing by double-stranded RNA").

  The Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, announced today that Fire, of Stanford University School of Medicine in California, and Mello, of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, will each receive half of the prize.

  The primary paper describing RNA interference was published...

05.10.2006  13:07 - Science world news: The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2006

  Roger D. Kornberg has won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his genetics work ("for his studies of the molecular basis of eukaryotic transcription"), following in the footsteps of his father, who received the 1959 Nobel in medicine.

   "The truly revolutionary aspect of the picture Kornberg has created is that it captures the process of transcription in full flow," the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences wrote. "In an ingenious manner Kornberg has managed to freeze the construction process of RNA halfway through."
